TICPP Trauma-Informed Child Parent Psychotherapy

Trauma-Informed Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is an evidence-based practice for treating children 0-7 years of age who have experienced traumatic
events like neglect, abuse or losing a caregiver. The therapist uses the language of childhood, toys and play, to reenact past traumas and help the child and
caregiver make meaning out of the events.
Gradual exposure coupled with creating new and safer endings allows the child and caregiver to make peace with the traumatic events and find comfort in their shared relationship. CPP believes that the child’s best chance at healing is within a safe and protected caregiver relationship. Special attention is paid to the caregiver’s own history of traumatic stress and its impacts on current parenting challenges. We offer skill building aimed at calming the grownup mind and supporting reflection.
